In terms of ultimate picture quality there is no denying that Olympus Viewer gives results that are great with almost no tweaking, but I cannot see myself using this software much.

The main areas that I look at are sharpness, detail, noise control, ability to recover highlights and shadows, and ease of use. Within 10 minutes I managed to get results that were at least as good, in some cases slightly better than Capture One. I heard good things about DXO Optics Pro, so I downloaded that and gave that a try.

In the end I managed to get very close, in some cases I find that some areas of the same image look better in Capture One and other areas of the same image look better in Olympus Viewer. I installed it and tried it and wow, I must say the results are really good! It has a horrible interface though and it is super slow, I sometimes make changes and wonder if something is happening, or if it is still going to happen, very frustrating if you try and tweak files and want to see your results in real time.īecause of the frustration with Olympus Viewer I decided to spend more time with Capture One to see if I could get similar results. Photo Ninja gets good results and at some point I thought of buying that as well, but then I stumbled across threads discussing Olympus Viewer software. So I proceeded to process some files in LR and I also got a copy of Photo Ninja to try. I know the EM1 or m43 format in general has more noise than FF and I expected it, however I was slightly disappointed with some of my initial low light efforts in Capture One. So when I bought the EM1 I naturally went straight to Capture One Pro 7 to process the ORF files. I have Lightroom 5.7 as well, but have been using Capture One Pro 7 exclusively with my D600 for the last two years and it just works great for me. I have been using the EM1 for about two weeks now, I also have a Nikon D600 and with my Nikon after a lot of testing I have come to the conclusion that Capture One Pro gave me the best results. I know this topic has been discussed in many places all over the web, but I haven't seen it addressed here on Flickr yet so I decided to post my thoughts.
